5 Reasons why Windows will continue leading over Ubuntu

I am an IT Manager working hard everyday with workstations desktop and server’s operating systems. My friends and co-workers call me Hector Nicolas, and I have been using Ubuntu for several months. Please read carefully this article and don’t get me wrong. Now I am perfectly aware of the power of Ubuntu as a superior operating system over Windows. I love Ubuntu but is incredible the quantity of users around the world that have used Ubuntu and continue using Microsoft Windows in their different versions (Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista). I will share with you the top five reasons why; despite the leadership of Ubuntu, Windows will continue leading the market in the forthcoming years.

Ubuntu is the best option. But only for geeks and advanced users: There are a lot of users that could find Windows as better option, not only because they feel more comfortable with the GUI of Windows but Ubuntu is specially developed by a community of programmers that are passionate with the console mode, typing a lot of commands. Common users don’t like that. That’s why this is one of the most important reasons Ubuntu is the best option for advanced users and programmers.

-Every month there are more people using Windows: According to the scores of Market Share on July 2008 more than the 91% of users around the world have Windows installed in their computers against .82% of users who have installed Linux (imagine the proportion of Ubuntu’s users). Despite the users of Linux are increasing very slowly the growing proportion of Windows users is higher every month.

-The marketing investment is higher for Microsoft Windows: One of the great weaknesses of Ubuntu and Linux in general is the low investment in publicity and promotion. People in this world use what they see on television and internet. Microsoft invests annually million of dollars in promotional Ads trying to demonstrate they are the best option.

-Microsoft Windows has more certified professionals than Ubuntu: One of the strongest elements of the software business in Microsoft is the certification program in order to keep the World Wide IT Professionals up to date with all the new products and version of products developed by Microsoft. The more professionals and technicians Microsoft has trained in their different products the more people they will have using its products. Microsoft is perfectly aware of that and is investing money and resources making IT Professionals more competitive and comfortable using Microsoft technologies. It’s one of the main differences between Windows and its competitors.

-Most office jobs around the world require skills with Microsoft Windows: Evidently when I apply for a job my boss will require me to know use the computer and more than the 95% of office software is based on Microsoft products specially Microsoft Windows. This is another way to demonstrate that Microsoft Windows and Microsoft products in general will lead the market over Ubuntu. What do you think Ubuntu developer community should do?
